Intensive Family Engagement Service (IFES)

The Intensive Family Engagement Service provides intensive, tailored support for families experiencing complex challenges, helping children remain safe, connected and well within their family environment wherever possible.

Overview

Every family has tough times. When there are worries about a child’s safety or wellbeing and mainstream services aren't quite right, our Intensive Family Engagement Service (IFES) offers extra support. Working alongside Child Safety Services, we build on what families already do well, with practical help, someone to talk to and support to make changes that last. Our goal is simple: helping families stay safely together.

Who is this program for

IFES is for children, young people, parents and caregivers facing complex challenges that affect a child’s safety or wellbeing, and who need more support than everyday family services can offer.

About the program

IFES provides intensive, tailored support to families over approximately 20 weeks, with regular sessions delivered in the family home, school or community.

Families are referred when there are concerns about child safety, wellbeing or family functioning and a more intensive level of support is needed.

Once a referral is accepted, we'll work alongside the family and Child Safety Services to identify their goals, build parenting skills, strengthen family relationships and connect families with the supports they need to create safer and more stable environments for children and young people.

This program includes

Intensive family support tailored to each family's strengths, goals and individual circumstances.
Parenting support and skill development to strengthen relationships, build confidence and support children's wellbeing and development.
Practical, therapeutic and community-based support, including connections to specialist services, safety planning and ongoing support networks.
