Our Voice
Our Voice empowers children and young people to share ideas and influence decisions after disasters — so communities plan and recover with kids’ needs at the centre.

Overview
Who is this program for
Our Voice is for children and young people - typically aged 5 to 18 - who’ve experienced disasters like bushfires, floods, etc. It’s also for local councils and service providers seeking to include kids’ perspectives in emergency planning and recovery.
About the program
Our Voice creates space for meaningful child participation in emergency preparedness, response, and recovery.
Delivered in partnership with local councils, the program follows four phases: Connect, Co-design, Communicate, and Create.
Children learn about their rights, share experiences, and develop recommendations to improve community resilience. They choose creative ways—like videos, art, or presentations—to communicate these ideas directly to decision makers.
Facilitators also train adults on ethical child participation, making sure kids feel safe and respected throughout.
By amplifying young voices, Our Voice helps communities design plans that genuinely meet children’s needs and strengthen recovery for everyone
