A Blueprint for a National Children's Plan

54 reasons & Save the Children Australia, the Australian Child Rights Taskforce, and UNICEF Australia are proud to present our Blueprint for a National Children’s Plan
– a comprehensive framework that aims to prioritise every child in Australia.

Every child in Australia should have the opportunity to reach their fullest potential and thrive - but despite significant effort over many decades, existing systems prevent us from making this a reality. To create better outcomes for children, we need to change systems!
Governments have the opportunity and the responsibility to drive a fundamental shift in how children – and childhood – are understood, approached and invested in across Australia. We can use child rights as a framework to make this real, but it needs a clear and shared commitment and action at a national level. We need a National Children’s Plan.

By providing a clear vision for childhood in Australia - the first chapter in all our lives - a National Children’s Plan effectively articulates a roadmap for the ambitions of Australian society as a whole and upholds children's enshrined rights to grow, develop and thrive.

UNICEF, 54 reasons and The Australian Child Rights Taskforce have come together to develop a Blueprint for a National Children's Plan, setting a path forward for a coordinated, comprehensive reponse to improve outcomes for all children. This plan would:

  • Establish clear outcomes and priorities for children’s wellbeing
  • Unify existing strategies to create a cohesive approach centred on children and their needs
  • Ensure every child is given the support they need to thrive

The Blueprint was developed in consultation with young people, and the child-friendly versions were co-designed with 54 reasons' Young Advisors.
