Through our play-based education services, learning is all about exploring and having fun. Children are supported to explore their interests, socialise with peers, recognise their feelings and learn to regulate their emotions. Caregivers are able to learn new skills and have time to focus on their child’s learning without the interruptions of daily life. Providing children with opportunities to learn, grow and develop through safe and supported play is crucial in shaping their cognitive, social and emotional health, and often leads to better outcomes later in life.
Our services support students to engage with their learning by feeling safe and connected, having a sense of belonging, feeling that what they are doing at school is purposeful, and believing they are developing meaningful skills to thrive at school, within their community, and into employment.
It is no surprise that young people who have been impacted by crisis often experience negative impacts on both their physical safety and emotional wellbeing. Without support early-on, these kids may end up falling behind in their learning and struggle later in life.
Enabling children’s voices to be heard has the potential to radically improve the world and how society works - not to mention individual wellbeing. There is no better way to achieve this than by empowering kids to be agents of change and encourage them to speak out and get involved in issues that are important to them. Our services will help you learn about your rights and give you an opportunity to be heard by decision makers and others in your community.
For some young Australians a raft of social and economic factors can impact their chance to reach their full potential. Factors like lack of appropriate housing, low employment, dispossession and current and past government policies can turn a life of potential into one that becomes enmeshed in the youth justice system. Punitive action isn’t the answer to stop re-offending. We provide early intervention support that is underpinned by a rights-respecting approach and educates children and adults working with them about children’s rights & responsibilities
All children have a right to be protected. Domestic and family violence is one of the most pressing issues affecting kids in Australia. Our approach keeps you - or kids like you - at the centre. We understand the unique experience you have when an adult in your home uses violence or coercive control to manipulate and destabilise other people and how this can affect the safety and overall functioning of you and your family. We recognise that you have your own needs, separate to your mum and your needs will always be included in the work we do with your family
In Hands on Learning we had the opportunity to teach each other things, work as a team and encourage each other to do stuff we didn’t know we could do. You spend a day together teaching each other new things. We were a little group, a team, we felt safe, and we collaborated with each other.
Whether you need a homework hero (aka, a mentor) or you're on a mission to make the most out of your transition back to community, it's likely we have a service that can help you figure out your goals, build up your skills and connect you with people who will be there for you.
