Hands on Learning is open to primary and secondary schools. Within participating schools, students are referred by wellbeing staff, year level coordinators and school leadership teams.
About the program
Hands on Learning is a practical in-school program that builds engagement, wellbeing, and attendance by creating opportunities for students to discover their talents and experience success through significant and authentic hands-on projects. We provide training and support for partner schools who become members of regional networks sharing ideas and inspiration.
Each week, groups of up to 10 students at Hands on Learning schools spend one full weekday outside the classroom working collaboratively on authentic creative projects around the school and in the local community - supported by school staff who are specially trained to deliver Hands on Learning's powerful learning model.
Schools can choose HoL Build (construction and gardening) or HoL Café (hospitality), across both primary and secondary schools.
Operating at more than 100 schools across Australia, Hands on Learning is a proven education engagement model. 86% of parents say that being part of Hands on Learning has improved their child’s confidence - and 95% of Hands on Learning students finish school, get an apprenticeship or get a job.
