It Takes a Village
Adjusting to life in a new country can be both exciting and challenging. It Takes a Village is designed to create a sense of community for migrant and refugee children and families as they adapt to life in Australia.

Overview
It Takes a Village helps newly arrived families settle into life in Australia - connecting kids and caregivers to community, learning through playgroups, life skills and wraparound supports.
Who is this program for
Families with children aged 0-5 in their first five years of settlement in Australia. ITAV is available in: Brisbane, QLD; Casey, Dandenong and Shepparton, VIC; and North and South Perth, WA.
About the program
When families arrive in Australia, everything is unfamiliar - language, systems, even the way kids play and learn. That’s where It Takes a Village steps in.
We offer supported playgroups, life skills classes and one-on-one support to help children get school-ready and caregivers feel confident in their new world. But more than that, we make sure families feel seen, heard and respected.
Services are delivered in culturally-responsive ways, meeting each family where they're at on their settlement journey. And every part of the program is built around children’s rights—like the right to learn, to be safe, and to grow up feeling connected.
- Children are better prepared for school transition & education engagement
- Parents and caregivers receive support for navigating Australian service systems
- Families are connected with other families who have similar lived experiences, and build supportive local networks
